Create a simple photo backup plan using cloud storage and an external drive so one failure does not erase important memories.

Use more than one copy

Files stored only on one computer or phone are not backed up. Keep at least two copies, ideally with one copy stored separately or in a trusted cloud account.

Organize before copying

Create folders by year or event and remove obvious duplicates. Consistent organization makes restoration easier later.

Understand syncing versus backup

Cloud syncing is convenient, but deletions can sometimes synchronize too. An external backup provides another recovery option.

Test your backup

Open a few copied photos and confirm dates and folder structure. A backup is only useful when the files can be restored.

Plan for new photos

Choose a routine that happens automatically or on a calendar. A one-time backup becomes outdated quickly.
